Here are five new thrillers rated 70% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes.
5. The Beekeeper — 71% on RT
First comes, probably, the best Jason Statham movie in years. This action-packed thriller is not only well-choreographed and impeccably acted, but also decently written. Our favorite Snatch star portrays a former operative on a mission to avenge those responsible for the death of his landlady, and his revenge is really elaborate.
4. Rest in Peace — 78% on RT
This one is quite unusual, as it’s an Argentine thriller that managed to enter Netflix’s global top at the time and offered a unique premise. It focuses on a man who decides to fake his death in an explosion to protect his family from financial strain. Years later, he returns only to realize that their lives have completely changed.
3. Arcadian — 79% on RT
Next comes a flick that blends thriller, action, and horror elements, making it an emotional roller coaster of a movie. Starring Nicolas Cage and set in a post-apocalyptic future, it follows a man and his two teenage sons as they try to survive in a new reality where they’re threatened by ferocious creatures by night.
2. Monkey Man — 88% on RT
Dev Patel’s directorial debut is truly a gem of the genre, thanks to the greatness of its script that doesn’t forget to explore both social and personal issues. This action thriller centers on an oppressed man who participates in an underground fight club and sets out to avenge the city’s sinister elite who took everything from him.
1. Love Lies Bleeding — 94% on RT
The last entry on today’s list is a multi-genre film that combines elements of neo-noir, crime thriller, sports drama, and romance. It stars Kristen Stewart as a gym manager who falls for a bodybuilder (Katy O’Brian), but is forced to deal with the crimes of her family. Indeed, it is definitely worth your time as the most inventive thriller of the year.
