‘Lost’ Seasons 1-6
Starts streaming: July 1
Returning just in time for the 20th anniversary of its debut, the immensely popular science-fiction series “Lost” is back on Netflix. This epic saga begins with a seemingly random group of airline passengers who crash-land on an uncharted island. Over six seasons, it evolves into a centuries-spanning adventure filled with mysteries and historical intrigue. The show’s innovative flashback structure provides a balance between on-island adventures and the characters’ backstories, creating a rich, character-driven drama and an addictive puzzle.
‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’
Starts streaming: July 3
Eddie Murphy reprises his iconic role as Axel Foley in this long-awaited sequel, arriving 30 years after “Beverly Hills Cop III.” In “Axel F,” Foley returns to Los Angeles to help his estranged daughter, Jane (Taylour Paige), a defense attorney whose life is in danger. Teaming up with Jane’s ex-boyfriend, Detective Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Foley encounters old friends like Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), John Taggart (John Ashton), Jeffrey Friedman (Paul Reiser), and Serge (Bronson Pinchot). The film promises a nostalgic 1980s action-comedy experience with big stunts and R-rated humor.
‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6, Part 1
Starts streaming: July 18
The popular sequel series to “The Karate Kid” is concluding with a season divided into three parts, starting with five episodes in July. “Cobra Kai” reimagines the 1984 film’s antagonist, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), as an underdog and its hero, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), as someone who has lost touch with his roots. The series has expanded its scope, incorporating more elements from the “Karate Kid” mythology while exploring complex character motivations and relationships, focusing on overcoming family histories and socioeconomic backgrounds.
‘Skywalkers: A Love Story’
Starts streaming: July 19
This gripping documentary follows Russian “roof-toppers” Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, who climb towering buildings to take breathtaking photos. As their romantic relationship falters, they decide to reignite their connection by planning a daring ascent of the world’s second-tallest skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur. Directors Jeff Zimbalist and Maria Bukhonina use extensive social media footage to tell a story about love, trust, and the risks of extreme climbing.
‘The Decameron’ Season 1
Starts streaming: July 25
Inspired by Giovanni Boccaccio’s 14th-century collection of novellas, “The Decameron” is set in Florence during the Black Plague. It follows a group of aristocrats and their servants sheltering in a rural villa. Created by Kathleen Jordan (“Teenage Bounty Hunters”), the mini-series features a talented cast including Zosia Mamet (“Girls”), Tanya Reynolds (“Sex Education”), Saoirse-Monica Jackson (“Derry Girls”), and Tony Hale (“Arrested Development”). Unlike the original anthology format, this adaptation focuses on the interactions and misadventures of the isolated houseguests, blending humor with social and sexual intrigue.
