In a recent ranking by Architectural Digest, the publication identified the 17 best skylines globally, commending cities for their unique blend of architectural and natural beauty.
Unsurprisingly, Chicago received high praise, securing the third spot on the list. The city’s stunning skyscrapers along the shores of Lake Michigan earned it this accolade.
Interestingly, Chicago wasn’t the only Midwestern city to be recognized. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was also featured, ranked as the 15th best skyline in the world. Architectural Digest highlighted the city’s prominent position along Lake Michigan and singled out Santiago Calatrava’s Milwaukee Art Museum as a significant feature of its skyline.
In addition to Milwaukee and Chicago, other American cities made the list. Manhattan, New York City, claimed the top spot, while Seattle was placed 14th.
Architectural Digest based its ranking on several criteria, posing questions such as: “What exactly makes a beautiful skyline? One that is immediately recognizable? Those that are the most harmonious? The cities with the greatest number of individually striking buildings?” The publication concluded that a beautiful skyline is a combination of all these elements.
