Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has etched its name in the annals of the Guinness World Records by successfully planting 11 lakh saplings within a span of 24 hours. The achievement was formally recognized by Guinness World Records, with the Madhya Pradesh government receiving the certificate during a ceremony where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav accepted the honor from representatives of the British institution.
The record-breaking feat, titled “The most trees planted by a team in 24 hours,” was accomplished on July 13-14, 2024, as confirmed by Guinness World Records. The ambitious plantation drive was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who planted the first sapling in the Revati Range early in the morning. Over the course of 13 hours, more than 12 lakh saplings were successfully planted in the Indore city area, as reported by a senior district officer.
The meticulous planning for this endeavor began with the digging of trenches precisely at 7:03 PM on the preceding Saturday. The planting operation commenced at 6 AM on Sunday and concluded at 7 PM under the supervision of a 50-member team from Guinness World Records. By 8 PM, more than 12 lakh saplings had been counted by the team, although Guinness World Records officially recognized the planting of 11 lakh saplings for the record.
Of the saplings planted, approximately nine lakh belonged to the ‘Madhu Kamini’ species known for its oxygen generation and pleasant fragrance. The remaining three lakh saplings encompassed various other tree species. This monumental effort forms part of the broader ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with plans to plant a total of 51 lakh trees across rural and urban areas of the Indore district.
This record-breaking achievement not only highlights Indore’s commitment to environmental conservation but also sets a benchmark for sustainable initiatives on a global scale.
