Reuben Looks Twice Jr., a seventeen-year-old from South Dakota, has made headlines by securing the Guinness World Record for the “world’s longest hair on a male teenager.” His hair, which measures an impressive 161cm, has been growing since he was just two years old.
In an interview featured on the Guinness World Records website, Reuben explained that his hair was initially left uncut because of a childhood fear of hair clippers. Over the years, he embraced the tradition of his Lakota heritage, where long hair holds cultural significance. “Culturally, Lakota people have long hair. It’s part of our nagi (spirit). It’s who I am,” Reuben proudly shared. “I feel proud to represent my family and the Lakota Nation.”
Despite the pride he feels in his heritage, Reuben admitted there are practical challenges to managing such lengthy locks. “The only downside,” he confessed, “is that my hair can get caught in car doors and shower knobs.”
Maintaining his record-breaking hair requires a meticulous routine: it takes 20 minutes to shampoo and condition, an hour to dry, and another 10 minutes to detangle, brush, and style into a long braid.
To officially verify his record, Reuben visited a salon where his hair underwent careful washing and brushing before being laid out on a table for measurement. The official length was determined by averaging three separate measurements.
