Babajide Isreal Adebanjo, a Nigerian man, has etched his name into the Guinness World Records by twerking continuously for an astounding 3 hours and 30 minutes. This remarkable feat took place in Lagos on 14 January, as confirmed by Guinness World Records on their official website.
According to Guinness World Records, Adebanjo undertook this challenge not only as a personal goal but also to raise awareness about depression worldwide. His message emphasizes that no achievement, regardless of its scale or uniqueness, is beyond reach for anyone.
Adebanjo’s record-breaking effort surpasses the previous record set by Elena Sofie Sterlini of Austria, who twerked for 2 hours and 1 minute in January 2023 as a personal accomplishment.
In the realm of collective records, the Guinness World Record for the most people twerking simultaneously stands at 406 participants, achieved during the Big Freedia and Central City Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, on 15 November 2014. This event, organized by the Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard Merchants & Business Association, aimed to celebrate cultural traditions, revitalize the neighborhood, and support local businesses and non-profits.
Nigeria has recently seen a surge in Guinness World Record attempts across various domains. Notably, figures like Hilda Baci, known as the Nigerian Jollof Queen, set a record for the longest cook-a-thon in June 2023, while Fola David, a doctor and visual artist, created the world’s largest drawing by an individual, titled “Unity in Diversity”, spanning an impressive 850 square meters.
Babajide Isreal Adebanjo’s accomplishment adds to this trend, highlighting Nigeria’s vibrant spirit of determination and ambition on the global stage of Guinness World Records.
