Jessica Fox has solidified her status as one of Australia’s and Judaism’s finest Olympians by securing her second gold medal in three days and third overall at Paris 2024.
In a thrilling performance on Wednesday, Fox conquered the canoe single event with a time of 101.06 seconds, despite incurring a two-second touch penalty, outpacing her German competitor by 2.48 seconds. This victory adds to her gold medal in the same event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
At 30 years old, Fox now boasts an impressive tally of six Olympic medals: three golds, one silver, and two bronzes. She has set a new standard as the most decorated Olympic canoe slalom athlete in history and stands alone as the sole Australian Olympian with six individual medals. Earlier in the Paris Games, Fox had triumphed in the kayak slalom event, further enhancing her Olympic legacy.
Reflecting on her achievement, Fox remarked, “I don’t know how I did that, the atmosphere was incredible. I looked out and I saw so much green and yellow — so many Aussie flags and I think that was the best run I’ve ever done.”
Fox’s mother and coach, Myriam Fox-Jerusalmi, herself an Olympic medalist, expressed immense pride in her daughter’s mental fortitude and competitive prowess. She emphasized, “[Jessica] won’t be beaten by anybody any time soon in the sport of canoe slalom.”
Richard Fox, Jessica’s father, hailed her gold medal as “the most remarkable thing she’s ever done,” underscoring the significance of her achievement on the global stage.
Jessica Fox’s remarkable journey at Paris 2024 continues, as she prepares to compete in the kayak cross event on Friday alongside her younger sister Noemi Fox, offering another opportunity to add to her exceptional Olympic medal count.
