PARIS — Cole Hocker delivered an extraordinary performance in the men’s 1500 meters at the Paris 2024 Olympics, capturing the gold medal with a new Olympic record time of 3:27.65.
The Indianapolis Cathedral High School graduate showcased remarkable speed and strategy, moving from 5th place to the front in the final 300 meters. His sprint finish allowed him to surpass both favorites, Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Josh Kerr, achieving a personal best that was over three seconds faster than his previous record.
Hocker’s time of 3:27.65 edged out Josh Kerr by just 14 hundredths of a second, with Kerr finishing in second place. Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who had led the race for the majority, ended up in 4th place behind American runner Yared Nuguse.
