One Piece continues to make waves as it nears its 30th anniversary. The beloved franchise, which debuted in 1997, has just secured another Guinness World Record, cementing its status as a titan in the world of manga and anime.
The latest accolade celebrates the anime adaptation of One Piece, specifically for its impressive DVD collection. Guinness World Records has officially recognized One Piece for having the most DVDs released by a serial anime TV program. As of July 3, 2024, the count stands at a staggering 300 DVDs released by Avex Pictures Inc. (Japan).
The announcement was made on One Piece Day, a special occasion for fans and creators alike. This new record adds to the growing list of accolades for the series, which continues to set benchmarks in the world of anime and manga.
One Piece has a history of breaking records. Its most notable achievement is the record for the most copies of any comic book series published by a single author. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, was awarded this honor in 2015, with a subsequent ratification in 2022 after the manga surpassed 500 million print copies globally. The series’ sales figures have only continued to climb since then.
Fans of One Piece are also setting records. In January 2023, Lam Siu Fung was awarded by Guinness World Records for amassing the largest collection of One Piece memorabilia. As of late 2023, Fung’s collection boasts an impressive 20,125 pieces, surpassing even Oda’s own collection.
As One Piece continues to break new ground, it remains a powerhouse in both anime and manga. Whether through record-setting milestones or global fan engagement, the series shows no signs of slowing down. For those yet to dive into the adventure, the One Piece manga is available on Viz Media’s Shonen Jump app.
