Hyderabad has quietly overtaken Chennai to become the largest global center for Cognizant, marking a significant shift in the IT giant’s focus within India. According to sources, Cognizant’s headcount in Hyderabad has surpassed 57,000 employees, outpacing Chennai’s workforce, which is currently in the range of 55,000 to 56,000. This growth in Hyderabad is bolstered by a robust business process outsourcing (BPO) presence and a faster rate of expansion compared to other locations.
In a recent development that underscores Hyderabad’s rising prominence, Cognizant announced plans to add another 15,000 seats in the city. This strategic move, coupled with the laying of the foundation stone for a new 10 lakh square foot campus on August 14, is expected to further solidify Hyderabad’s position as the company’s largest center globally. The announcement was made during an event attended by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar.
While the headcount difference between Hyderabad and Chennai might fluctuate slightly over time, the latest expansion plans in Hyderabad clearly signal the city’s growing importance in Cognizant’s global operations. This shift not only reflects the company’s strategic priorities but also highlights Hyderabad’s burgeoning role as a major IT hub in India.
