Abuja, Nigeria — Munachimso Brian Nwana, a 22-year-old content creator and food consultant, has made headlines by setting a new world record for the most fast food restaurants visited in a single day. Brian’s record-breaking feat involved visiting 150 different fast food establishments within a 24-hour period, surpassing the previous record of 100 set by American YouTuber Airrack.
The Challenge of Abuja
While previous record attempts were concentrated in New York City, Brian’s challenge took place in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. Brian noted the added difficulty of his endeavor, explaining, “New York has clusters of restaurants and adequate public transportation systems, so doing this in Abuja was much more daunting and challenging.” Due to Abuja’s limited public transportation infrastructure, Brian undertook the challenge entirely on foot, covering over 25 kilometers (15 miles).
Strategic Planning and Execution
Brian began his journey at 5 p.m., starting at Chicken Republic in Gwarinpa, a residential district, and concluded at Kilimanjaro in the city center. He strategically planned his route to maximize efficiency and allow for breaks. A key component of the challenge was the requirement to purchase and consume at least one food or drink item at each location, with a mandate that at least 75% of the orders be food. To manage this, Brian took a nine-hour break from midnight to 9 a.m. for sleep.
A Culinary Marathon
Brian’s culinary journey included a diverse array of fast food items such as shawarma, pizza, fried chicken, and burgers. However, his favorite meals were traditional Nigerian dishes like moin moin (bean pudding) and àmàlà (a dough-like swallow food). Brian estimated that he consumed “probably enough to last a week,” with any remaining food shared among his team and members of the public.
Promoting Nigerian Cuisine
The primary goal of Brian’s record attempt was to highlight and promote Abuja’s fast food scene and showcase the richness of Nigerian cuisine. By breaking the record, Brian hopes to draw international attention to Nigerian food culture and encourage people worldwide to explore and experience it.
Celebrating the Achievement
Brian’s achievement not only demonstrates his dedication and stamina but also serves as a testament to the vibrant and diverse food culture in Nigeria. As Brian himself put it, “This record goes to show that the Nigerian food space is worth paying attention to.”
With this remarkable accomplishment, Munachimso Brian Nwana has set a new benchmark in the world of food challenges, while also shining a spotlight on the culinary delights of Abuja and Nigeria.
