Paul Scardino, a therapist from Virginia, USA, has reclaimed his title for the largest Funko Pop! collection, boasting an impressive total of 8,002 unique figurines as of December 2023. This surpasses the previous record held by David Mebane, who had 7,095 figures.
Paul, known online as The Popthusiast, first set the record in 2018 with 4,475 figures and expanded it to 5,306 in 2020 before temporarily losing the title to David. His extensive collection now includes characters from a vast array of genres and franchises.
In his basement, Paul has meticulously organized his collection into various categories. There’s an animation section featuring characters from “The Simpsons” and “Dragon Ball Z,” a movie area with figures ranging from “King Kong” to “Barbie” and “Harry Potter” to “The Matrix,” and dedicated spaces for DC and Marvel superheroes. Notable items include an 18-inch Batman and a full-size Baby Groot.
Paul’s collection also highlights sports legends, musicians, and video game icons like Sonic the Hedgehog and Crash Bandicoot. A special section is devoted to the “Star Wars” franchise, organized by movie series, while Disney and TV show figures have their own spaces.
Among his collection, Paul considers his most valuable Pop! to be a Jesse Pinkman Comic-Con exclusive from “Breaking Bad.” He also boasts a unique figure made in his own image, thanks to Funko’s “Pop Yourself” line, which allows fans to create personalized figures.
“This is the third time I’m breaking this record,” Paul said, reflecting on his achievement. “Funko Pops! connect people through shared passions, and I even use them in my mental health therapy practice to connect with others.”
As Paul continues to expand his collection, it remains to be seen how much larger it will grow in the future.
