CHICAGO — The most expensive house in Chicago has been sold for $15.25 million. The property, located at 1932 N. Burling St. in Lincoln Park, was acquired by new owners this week, according to Sotheby’s International Realty.
The 25,000-square-foot mansion features six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, four partial bathrooms, and sits on an expansive 177′ x 149′ lot. Its design includes a limestone façade with detailed relief work, an arbor, a hand-forged pavilion, decorative fountains, and a reflection pool.
Inside, the home boasts a grand entryway with precision-cut marble from the French Pyrenees, a rotunda with a 22-karat gold staircase, and a lower level wine cellar modeled after the Great Stable of Versailles. The main level offers a game room, media room, and guest bedrooms, while the upper levels include a grand living room, family room, library, music room, and a chef’s kitchen with a 2,000-square-foot wraparound terrace featuring an outdoor kitchen and fireplace.
The house, completed in 2010, was built by Richard and Michaela Parrillo, who purchased the land in 2005 for over $12 million and reportedly spent $65 million on construction. The mansion, designed by architect Thomas Beeby, replaced a historic building that once housed the Chicago Nursery & Half-Orphan Asylum and later the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago.
Despite its opulence, the sale price was a significant reduction from the original asking price of $50 million. The buyers’ identities have not been disclosed.
The mansion is located in a vibrant neighborhood known for its eclectic mix of restaurants, theaters, and historical sites.
