MEDOWIE, N.S.W. — Sixteen-year-old Dixie Conlon, a rising star from Medowie, has set a new record in the triple jump at the Maitland-Newcastle Diocesan Catholic Secondary Schools Athletics Championships. Conlon, who represented Australia at the Oceania Athletics Championships in Fiji this June, showcased her talents against top international competitors. Despite narrowly missing a podium finish, her performance was a significant step in her athletic journey.
Conlon, a student at Catherine McAuley College and the reigning NSW Junior Under 17 champion in both the triple and long jump, is inspired by recent Australian successes, including those at the Paris Olympics and the World Junior Championships in Peru.
At the Maitland-Newcastle Championships, Conlon excelled, winning gold in the triple jump with a new record of 11.09 meters, surpassing the previous mark of 10.58 meters. She also triumphed in the 100m and 200m sprints and the long jump.
Looking ahead, Conlon will compete in the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Athletics Championships on September 16 and the NSW All Schools Championships from September 28 to October 2 at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.
