Mark O’Brien, a swimmer supported by a company founded in Kilkenny, has achieved his Guinness World Record goals, setting new benchmarks in two countries within a single day.
O’Brien, who lives with Motor Neuron Disease, first competed at Inspire Luton Sports Village in the UK, where he improved the previous record of 38.92 seconds by shaving two seconds off. He then flew to the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin, where he completed the 100m freestyle in 1 minute, 29.12 seconds, surpassing the previous record by 10 seconds.
The endeavor was supported by Campion Insurance, whose representative, Jim Campion, praised O’Brien’s achievement: “Everyone at Campion Insurance and PIB Group congratulates Mark on his remarkable feat. Breaking two records in two different countries in one day is both inspiring and a testament to Mark’s resilience and character.”
O’Brien’s record-breaking efforts also aim to raise critical funds for Motor Neuron Disease research and support. Donations can be made through his GiveWheel fundraising page. All funds will be divided between The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA), The UK Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), and Challenging MND.
