Chelsea’s Cole Palmer received high praise from manager Enzo Maresca after his record-setting performance, where he became the first player in Premier League history to score four goals in a single half during a thrilling 4-2 victory over Brighton at Stamford Bridge.
Palmer’s remarkable achievement came in just 20 minutes, showcasing his talent with a stunning free-kick that curled into the top corner. With this performance, he now has six goals in his last six matches, contributing significantly to Chelsea’s third consecutive league win.
Maresca did not hold back in his admiration, calling Palmer the “best player in the Premier League.” He highlighted Palmer’s potential for even more goals, noting, “He scored four but he also could have scored two or three more.” The coach emphasized Palmer’s humility and consistent performance, recalling his early days coaching him at Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad.
Palmer’s versatility on the pitch has also been a point of focus for Maresca, who explained, “We try to use Cole in that position (as a 10) because it’s his best position,” but acknowledged his ability to play various roles, including winger and false nine.
Brighton’s manager, Fabian Hurzeler, recognized Palmer’s impact, admitting, “He punished every mistake,” and noted the difficulties of defending against a player of his caliber. Hurzeler acknowledged that the team lost structure at times, making it challenging to contain Palmer.
With this historic performance, Palmer not only solidified his status as a key player for Chelsea but also left a lasting impression in the Premier League, raising expectations for his continued success.
