Ram Singh Bouddh, the director of the Mann Ki Baat Radio Museum at Siddharth Inter College in Uttar Pradesh, India, has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records for possessing the largest collection of radios in the world. Bouddh boasts an impressive total of 1,400 radio sets; however, in accordance with Guinness guidelines, only unique radio sets were counted. Ultimately, he has amassed 1,257 distinct radios in his collection.
The previous record, held by M. Prakash since July 2005, consisted of 625 different radios. Bouddh’s achievement marks a significant milestone in the realm of radio collecting.
In a letter to RedTech, which featured his extraordinary journey in the March/April 2024 edition of the magazine, Bouddh detailed the challenges he faced while preserving India’s rich radio heritage. He expressed his unwavering dedication, stating, “Despite suffering three cardiac arrests due to the rigorous efforts involved in collecting these radios, my passion, zeal, and enthusiasm for preserving this rich cultural heritage of entertainment and communication remain undiminished.”
Bouddh’s remarkable collection and steadfast commitment to radio preservation have garnered him substantial recognition in India’s national media and praise from the country’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. His story serves as an inspiring testament to the power of passion and perseverance in safeguarding cultural history.
