On October 4, 2024, Bhubaneswar, India, witnessed a historic moment as the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Volleyball Foundation Festival shattered the Guinness World Record for the most players in a volleyball exhibition match. An astounding 430 players participated in the event, surpassing the previous record of 294 set by the Association Sportive de Saint Genis Les Ollieres in France during the Téléthon 2011.
The record-breaking game spanned over eight hours, with a final score of 736 to 756. This extraordinary match not only exceeded the previous record by 136 participants but also drew significant attention due to its massive scale. Players from the Brahmaputra Volleyball League were among those who participated, adding further prestige to the event.
The festival was a collaborative effort organized by the FIVB Volleyball Foundation, the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), and KISS. It took place at the KIIT and KISS Athletic Stadium, attracting a staggering 40,000 attendees, including 5,000 young volleyball enthusiasts who actively participated in various activities.
The event featured 60 outdoor courts and several indoor venues, providing numerous opportunities for attendees to engage in volleyball activities. The festival aimed to promote fun, inclusion, and community spirit, with a focus on connecting people through the universal love for the sport.
