Nepal’s 18-year-old Sherpa climber, Nima Rinji Sherpa, has made history by becoming the youngest person to conquer all 14 of the world’s highest peaks, each standing above 8,000 meters. Nima achieved this extraordinary feat on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, after summiting Mount Shishapangma, the last of the 14 peaks.
The announcement came from expedition organizers, Seven Summit Treks, who celebrated the teenage climber’s historic accomplishment on Instagram. “Nima Rinji Sherpa, at the remarkable age of 18 years and 5 months, has made history by becoming the youngest person to summit all 14 of the world’s highest peaks over 8,000 meters. Accompanied by his climbing partner, Pasang Nurbu Sherpa, who also completed the 14x8000ers, Nima reached the summit of Mount Shishapangma (8,027m) early this morning at 6:05 a.m. (China local time),” the post read.
Nima’s ascent of Mount Shishapangma marked the completion of a challenging two-year quest that began in September 2022. He faced delays while waiting for permits from the Chinese authorities, which were issued in September 2024, allowing him to make the final climb.
Nima’s record-breaking journey began with his ascent of Mount Manaslu (8,163m) in September 2022. Over the course of just two years and ten days, he successfully scaled all 14 peaks, a timeline that underscores both his determination and remarkable endurance.
According to Nepal’s Department of Tourism, Nima’s journey included scaling some of the most dangerous and highest peaks in the world. His achievements include:
