Kia is set to make the electric vehicle (EV) market more competitive with the upcoming launch of the EV3, the company’s new compact electric SUV. This model aims to position Kia against its established rivals in the growing electric car segment.
While the impact of proposed price tariffs on Chinese cars sold in Europe remains uncertain, Kia’s entry into this compact SUV market is poised to challenge competitors effectively. The Kia EV6 and EV9 have already garnered attention for their impressive battery ranges, efficiency, and advanced technology. The new EV3 appears to incorporate the best features of these higher-end models, scaled down for a more compact design.
The Kia EV3 is expected to be available in Ireland in time for January registrations. The base model, known as the Earth 2 version, will start at €36,790, slightly undercutting Hyundai’s Kona and BYD’s Atto. It features a 58.3 kWh battery, which Kia claims can deliver a range of 436 kilometers. However, this range is subject to verification through real-world testing.
For those seeking more range, the next variant priced at €40,350 comes with an 81.4 kWh battery, boasting a claimed range of 604 kilometers.
All versions of the EV3 come with standard features that include 17-inch alloy wheels, dual 12.3-inch display screens for controls and infotainment, LED headlights, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The Earth 3 version, starting from €42,840, is equipped exclusively with the 81.4 kWh battery and offers additional features like 19-inch alloy wheels, vegan leather seats with electric adjustment, and blind-spot collision avoidance technology.
For those looking for a sportier option, the GT-line version begins at €47,190 and includes distinctive GT-line styling, an adjustable sunroof, and a powered tailgate.
Kia also highlights that the EV3’s battery comes with a liquid cooling system, allowing for charging from 10% to 80% capacity in just 29 minutes when using a fast charger. This feature enhances the practicality of the EV3, making it an appealing choice for electric vehicle enthusiasts in Ireland.
