A new endeavor is underway to break the Guinness World Record for the most museums visited within a 24-hour period.
Ben Melham, Director of heritage and culture solutions provider Mortice Consulting, has claimed to visit an impressive 42 museums in London over the span of just 11 hours, covering a distance of 42 kilometers during the journey.
Melham has submitted evidence of his record-breaking attempt to Guinness World Records. Should his claim be validated, it would surpass the current record held by Swaroop Dawrani and Sujoy Kumar Mitra, who visited 33 museums in Delhi, India, on January 5 and 6, 2024.
Previously serving as the Group Head of Estate for the Science Museum Group, Melham documented his journey by taking photos in each museum he visited and sharing the evidence on his dedicated Instagram profile, @collectingmuseums.
His itinerary featured notable stops including the Guildhall Art Gallery, The Cartoon Museum, the Bank of England Museum, the Royal Armouries Museum, the British Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A).
In a LinkedIn post, Melham expressed his intention for the attempt, stating, “I intentionally visited museums of all sizes as I wanted to use this World Record attempt to raise awareness and inspire greater engagement with museums and the incredible collections they safeguard.”
