Turkish Airlines has officially been recognized by Guinness World Records for flying to more countries than any other airline in the world.
While the flag carrier has long claimed the title, having unofficially held the record since 2012, it has now received formal acknowledgment. The airline was presented with the prestigious certificate for the “Most Countries Flown to by an Airline” at Santiago Merino Benitez International Airport, coinciding with its recent launch of flights to Chile.
According to Guinness World Records’ evaluation criteria, Turkish Airlines currently operates flights to 120 countries. However, the airline notes that this number does not include the newly inaugurated Chile route, nor does it account for temporarily suspended flights. If those factors are considered, the carrier serves a total of 131 countries.
Earlier this year, Turkish Airlines expanded its network by adding Australia to its list of destinations, with Melbourne becoming the latest addition followed by Sydney earlier this month.
The airline claims a significant lead over its closest competitor, stating it flies to 30 more countries than any other carrier. However, it’s worth noting that while Turkish Airlines serves the most countries, several U.S. carriers, including United, American Airlines, and Delta, operate flights to more individual destinations.
Talal Omar, Vice President of MENA and Türkiye at Guinness World Records, praised Turkish Airlines for its achievement. “Today, we mark a distinguished milestone for Turkish Airlines, whose steadfast commitment to connecting the world exemplifies vision and excellence in aviation,” Omar said. “This remarkable achievement affirms its vital role in the global aviation landscape, reaching more international destinations than any other airline. We congratulate Turkish Airlines on this extraordinary accomplishment and declare them, with great distinction, officially amazing.”
