Hong Kong has once again proven its global appeal, climbing to the 14th spot in Time Out’s annual ranking of the world’s best cities for 2025. This marks a remarkable 35-place jump from last year’s position at number 49, reinforcing the city’s unique blend of vibrancy and convenience.
The ranking places Hong Kong third in Asia, following behind Bangkok, which secured second place, and Shanghai in ninth. The list is based on a comprehensive survey, where thousands of city dwellers worldwide shared their opinions on aspects ranging from food quality and affordability to nightlife and walkability.
This year’s ranking highlights several key strengths for Hong Kong. Notably, the city was crowned the world’s safest, earning widespread praise from locals and visitors alike. Its renowned public transport system also earned the highest approval, with 98 percent of Hongkongers giving it a positive rating. Additionally, the city topped the list for overall convenience, making it a standout for those seeking ease of movement and accessibility.
However, not all aspects of life in Hong Kong received glowing reviews. Despite its many perks, the city struggles in areas like romantic connection and relaxation. Only 23 percent of residents rated the dating scene as “Good” or “Amazing,” and just eight percent of those surveyed consider Hong Kong to be a relaxing environment.
Nevertheless, the city’s ongoing improvements and attractions ensure its place among the best cities worldwide, reaffirming Hong Kong’s status as a dynamic and evolving global hub.
