In an exciting display of basketball prowess, Paul Romero, a freshman guard for the Springer Red Devils, shattered two major records in a game against Reserve. Paul’s performance not only etched his name into the record books but also surpassed a milestone previously held by someone very close to him—his older brother, Estevan Romero.
Paul’s biggest achievement came when he sank 16 three-pointers in the game, setting a new school record. The previous record holder was none other than Estevan, who had made 15 three-pointers back in 2016. Estevan, while understandably a bit sad to see his record broken, expressed his happiness and pride for his younger brother. “It’s a little sad, but I’m glad he was able to do it,” Estevan told KOAT, reflecting on the family achievement.
The record-breaking didn’t stop with the three-pointers. During the third quarter, Paul went on an unprecedented scoring spree, hitting 11 of his 16 three-pointers. His 33 points in that single quarter set a new record for the most points scored by a player in one quarter.
The incredible shooting performance by Paul also contributed to the Springer Red Devils setting a state record for most three-pointers made in a single game. The team made a total of 23 three-pointers, breaking the previous state record by one make.
Paul Romero’s historic performance on the court has not only made him a local legend but also put the Springer Red Devils basketball program on the map, with records being broken across the board. His achievement will likely inspire future generations of players, especially within his own family.
