Sydney Groves, a junior at Boise State, has been recognized as one of the top first basemen in college softball, earning the No. 15 spot on D1Softball’s preseason first basemen rankings for 2025. This follows her inclusion in Softball America’s preseason top 100 players, further solidifying her as a standout player to watch this season.
The Meridian, Idaho native had a remarkable 2024 season, showcasing her power and consistency at the plate. Groves posted a .318 batting average, and her 18 home runs set the Boise State sophomore record, tying for the team lead, the Mountain West Conference title, and ranking 23rd nationally. Her performance also placed her among the top players in Boise State’s history, with the home run total standing as the second-highest in school records.
Beyond her power, Groves also contributed to her team’s success with nine doubles and a school-record 57 RBIs in a single season. These performances earned her numerous honors, including a spot on the 2024 NFCA All-Pacific Region First Team, the All-Mountain West Second Team, and the Mountain West Championship All-Tournament Team.
Groves’ explosive bat and leadership in the field have made her one of the most talked-about players heading into the 2025 season, and she’s poised to continue her ascent in the world of college softball.
