Tasmania has claimed the top spot in Australia’s best beach rankings for the first time, with the Bay of Fires being named as the best beach in the country for 2025. This 10-kilometer stretch of coastline along Tasmania’s northeast coast features pristine waters, white sandy beaches, and striking orange lichen-covered rock formations, making it an iconic and visually stunning destination.
Brad Farmer AM, Australia’s beach ambassador, conducted a comprehensive survey of over 130 locations to determine the country’s best beach. The Bay of Fires’ diverse environmental beauty, including its clear blue seas, estuaries, and lakes, was a key factor in its top placement. Farmer highlighted the area’s fusion of natural gifts and the local culinary experience, emphasizing the bounty available from both the sea and the land.
Other notable beaches in the top rankings include Woolgoolga Beach in New South Wales, which claimed second place, and Emily Bay Lagoon on Norfolk Island, which secured third. These beaches, along with the Bay of Fires, offer a more regional and unique alternative to Australia’s more well-known beaches like Bondi and Brighton.
