Wethersfield native Doogie Sandtiger, famously known as the “Croc King,” is preparing to have his extraordinary Crocs collection officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. As of now, Sandtiger owns an astonishing 3,706 pairs of Crocs—and he’s not stopping anytime soon, with even more on the way.
Sandtiger, 34, has built a collection that spans all shapes, sizes, themes, and colors of Crocs. His journey began as a teenager, growing up in the foster care system, where he found Crocs to be a practical choice due to his inability to tie traditional shoes. “Crocs are comfortable, they are stylish, they’re for every occasion, for every season, there’s a pair for everybody,” Sandtiger explained, reflecting on what drew him to the iconic footwear.
What started as a necessity soon blossomed into a passion. As a social worker for the Department of Children and Families, Sandtiger has devoted years of his life—and around $500,000—towards acquiring his vast collection. His efforts have culminated in the remarkable achievement of being the world’s top Crocs collector.
This summer, Sandtiger’s dedication will be officially recognized when his collection is entered into the Guinness Book of World Records. The moment is the culmination of years of work, passion, and significant financial investment. “This crescendo is leading to the number one Croc collector in the world,” he said proudly.
To showcase his achievement, Sandtiger recently displayed 100 pairs of Crocs at the Thomas Hooker Brewery’s Tap Room in Bloomfield. With such a massive collection, the excitement of finally being acknowledged by the Guinness World Records team is evident.
