In a remarkable feat of precision and perseverance, an Australian father and son have set a new Guinness World Record for the most consecutive glider loops. David and Max Scutchings took to the skies in a twin-seat DG-1000 glider, executing 45 flawless inside loops and surpassing the previous record of 24, which had stood since 2001.
David Scutchings, nearing his 50th birthday, was determined to achieve something extraordinary. Inspired by his passion for aviation, he enlisted his 16-year-old son Max to join him in the daring challenge. The duo performed their world record-breaking loop sequence over Gawler, South Australia, on January 26—Australian Day—making their accomplishment even more significant.
David, a helicopter pilot for the South Australian Police, expressed that the record was not only a personal achievement but a demonstration of his life philosophy. I’ve always aimed to be a role model, especially for my family, showing that with goal setting, discipline, and hard work, you can accomplish what you set out to do,” he shared with Guinness World Records.
This groundbreaking achievement has set a new benchmark in the world of aviation and served as a source of inspiration for young people, with David emphasizing the value of pursuing a career in aviation. He believes it to be one of the most rewarding paths one can take in life.
