In a significant turn of events, JUJUTSU KAISEN has officially claimed the title of the world’s most sought-after animated TV show, dethroning Attack on Titan, which held the prestigious position since 2020.
According to data from Parrot Analytics, JUJUTSU KAISEN has garnered a global demand rating that surpasses the average TV show by a staggering 71.2 times. Parrot Analytics measures ‘demand’ by analyzing various factors such as consumer engagement, viewership, social media activity, and research actions related to a particular content.
Based on the popular manga series by Gege Akutami, JUJUTSU KAISEN chronicles the journey of high school student Yuji Itadori as he embarks on a quest to defeat a malevolent entity known as Sukuna, after inadvertently becoming its host. The anime adaptation has captivated audiences worldwide with its compelling storyline and dynamic characters.
Despite stiff competition from long-running favorites like One Piece and the acclaimed Attack on Titan, JUJUTSU KAISEN clinched the top spot in the 2023 rankings. One Piece experienced a surge in interest following the release of its live-action adaptation on Netflix, attracting both new and returning fans to the beloved series.
While Attack on Titan maintained its widespread popularity, it narrowly missed out on retaining its position at the summit this time around. However, it was JUJUTSU KAISEN’s surge in popularity towards the end of the year that ultimately propelled it to the forefront.
The release of new episodes for the second season from July to December saw a steady increase in demand for JUJUTSU KAISEN, culminating in a peak on December 29th, with demand soaring to 128 times the average for a TV show.
Notably, JUJUTSU KAISEN resonated particularly well with Generation Z viewers, aged 13 to 22, who comprised a significant 71.3% of its audience. This enthusiastic reception from a younger demographic played a pivotal role in solidifying its status as the most popular anime of the year, surpassing even the longstanding favorites like One Piece and Attack on Titan.
