An Italian DJ has made history with an unprecedentedly lengthy set, officially recognized as the world’s longest marathon club DJ-ing session.
DJ Faber Moreira, known by his real name Fabrizio Morero, astounded audiences by performing for an incredible 10 days and 4 hours, equivalent to precisely 244 hours and 2 minutes. This remarkable feat surpassed the previous record by an astonishing 44 hours.
The previous record-holder, Polish DJ Norberto Loco, set the bar a decade ago in Dublin.
DJ Faber, aged 59, embarked on his record-breaking journey on May 15th at a club in Saluzzo, captivating audiences until the early hours of May 26th. Equipped with all necessary amenities, including a bed for brief intervals of rest, he embraced the challenge with fervor.
As per the regulations governing ‘longest marathon’ records, DJ Faber was entitled to accumulate five minutes of rest per hour of activity, amounting to a total of two hours per day.
In an interview, DJ Faber revealed his strategic approach to managing fatigue, highlighting the significance of limiting his naps to 15 minutes each. He emphasized the importance of avoiding the REM phase of sleep, where the brain enters a state of complete slumber.
Describing the initial days as fueled by adrenaline and relatively manageable, DJ Faber acknowledged the onset of sleep deprivation by the fifth day. During the final stretch, he encountered “crazy sleep crises,” recounting moments where he nearly succumbed to drowsiness while operating the mixer. Vigilant witnesses, armed with a bell, alerted him whenever his eyes began to droop, a sound he grew to disdain.
To stave off fatigue, DJ Faber resorted to splashing ice water on his face and wrists. Notably, he refrained from consuming coffee, cigarettes, or any stimulants, firmly dispelling the notion that his profession is synonymous with substance use. In a bid to quash any doubts, DJ Faber voluntarily underwent an anti-doping test to affirm his sobriety.
Preparation for the record attempt spanned two years, during which DJ Faber diligently adhered to a regimen prescribed by a personal trainer, nutritionist, physiotherapist, and yoga instructor.
With a career spanning over four decades, DJ Faber’s journey began in 1983 at the age of 17. He ascended to prominence, gracing the stages of northern Italy’s most illustrious clubs.
Drawing from his extensive vinyl collection, DJ Faber kicked off the marathon by spinning funk classics from the ’70s, seamlessly transitioning to ’80s disco anthems, and culminating with a chronological exploration of house music from 1987 to the present day.
Reflecting on the experience, DJ Faber expressed profound satisfaction at the opportunity to curate such an extensive playlist. Throughout the marathon, he ensured the presence of a dancing audience comprising individuals of all ages, with schoolchildren attending morning sessions and party enthusiasts dominating the nocturnal revelries.
In adherence to stringent guidelines, DJ Faber’s performance was meticulously monitored by a rotating cadre of independent witnesses, including seasoned DJs. Guinness World Records Official Adjudicator Lorenzo Veltri meticulously scrutinized video footage and corroborating evidence before conferring DJ Faber with his well-deserved certificate.
Grateful for the overwhelming support, DJ Faber humbly acknowledged the collective effort that culminated in his historic achievement. “Being number one in the world is a great satisfaction, especially at my age,” he remarked. “I want to thank everyone. Without their support, it would have been impossible to reach the finish line.”
