The Chattanooga-manufactured Volkswagen ID.4 has secured a spot in the top 3 of Cars.com’s American-made ranking, marking a significant achievement for the battery-powered SUV. This recognition comes for the second consecutive year, having climbed from sixth place in 2023.
Cars.com’s independent index evaluates vehicles based on their American composition, considering five key factors: assembly location, parts sourcing as per the American Automobile Labeling Act, U.S. factory employment in relation to vehicle production, and engine and transmission sourcing.
Pablo Di Si, President and CEO of Volkswagen of America, expressed that the ranking highlights the company’s dedication to Chattanooga and its workforce of 5,500 employees. “The localization of the ID.4 is delivering strong results for the brand, with ID.4 representing 7.5% of total Volkswagen vehicle sales in the first quarter of 2024,” Di Si stated.
Since the 2023 model year, all ID.4 models sold in the U.S. have been assembled in Chattanooga. This year, electric vehicles make up only 8% of the Cars.com index, with the Tesla Model Y topping the list and the Honda Passport coming in second.
Additionally, all 2024 ID.4 SUV models are eligible for the full $7,500 federal tax credit when purchased and placed into service in 2024, according to Volkswagen.
