Australia’s dynamic all-rounder has claimed the top position in the ICC T20 Rankings, displacing Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi. His impressive performance, which included taking 2/9 against Namibia and a crucial 59 from 29 balls against Scotland, has propelled him to the top spot. When he came to the crease at 60/3 in the ninth over, Australia looked in trouble, but his inspired innings secured a vital win.
The new rankings have Wanindu Hasaranga and Shakib Al Hasan rounding out the top three, with Nabi slipping to fourth but remaining in close contention.
West Indies Bowlers on the Rise
While the batting prowess of World Cup co-hosts West Indies often grabs headlines, their bowlers have been the standout performers in the tournament so far, as reflected in the latest ICC T20I Bowling Rankings.
Akeal Hosein has made significant strides, climbing six places to second, just behind England’s Adil Rashid, who retains the No. 1 spot. Alzarri Joseph has also risen six places, just outside the top ten, while Gudakesh Motie has surged 16 spots to 13th.
In-Form Batters Close in on Top Spots
The top four positions in the Men’s Batting Rankings remain unchanged, with Suryakumar Yadav, Phil Salt, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan holding steady. However, several in-form players are making notable moves up the rankings.
Australian opener Travis Head has climbed five places to fifth, while West Indies star Nicholas Pooran has jumped eight spots to 11th. Additionally, Sherfane Rutherford has seen a significant rise, moving up 43 places to 42nd after his extraordinary unbeaten 68 against New Zealand. While he may not break into the top ten soon, his World Cup heroics have certainly boosted his standing.
