Singapore now holds the title for the world’s most powerful passport, overtaking Japan and placing the US further down the ranks. According to the 2024 Henley Passport Index, Singaporean passport holders can travel to 195 countries without the need for a visa, securing the top spot in global mobility.
The Henley Passport Index, which ranks passports based on the number of countries their holders can access visa-free, draws data from the International Air Transport Authority. This year, the US passport grants visa-free access to 188 countries, placing it eighth globally. In comparison, passports from 27 other nations offer greater travel freedom than the US passport.
Japan, previously the leader, has fallen to second place, now sharing the position with France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Each of these countries allows passport holders to visit 194 countries without obtaining a visa beforehand.
Here are the rankings based on the 2024 Henley Passport Index:
Singapore: Access to 195 countries without a visa.
Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France: Access to 194 countries.
Sweden, South Korea, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland, Finland, Austria: Access to 193 countries.
