Carnival Cruise Line is embarking on its most ambitious expansion to date with the introduction of a new class of ships, set to be the largest in its history. Beginning in the summer of 2029, Carnival will debut the first of three mega-vessels, each boasting over 3,000 cabins and a capacity nearing 8,000 guests. The subsequent ships are slated for launches in 2031 and 2033, marking a milestone not only for Carnival Cruise Line but also for its parent company, Carnival Corp.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, expressed pride in the announcement, emphasizing the company’s legacy as “America’s cruise line” known for exceptional guest loyalty and memorable vacations for over 100 million guests. In a recent news release, Duffy highlighted the company’s focus on innovation to deliver unparalleled guest experiences aboard these next-generation ships.
The construction of these groundbreaking vessels will be overseen by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. CEO Pierroberto Folgiero of Fincantieri noted the significance of this partnership, describing these ships as the largest ever built by the company and a testament to their ongoing collaboration with Carnival Cruise Line.
Further details regarding the ships’ design features and itineraries will be disclosed at a later date by Carnival Cruise Line. This announcement follows Carnival’s earlier commitments, including orders for two additional Excel class ships slated for delivery in 2027 and 2028, complementing their current Excel class fleet comprising Carnival Mardi Gras, Celebration, and Jubilee.
Additionally, Carnival plans to enhance its fleet by integrating two existing ships from sister brand P&O Cruises Australia, scheduled for retirement by March 2025 under the Carnival Corp. umbrella.
