PARIS — China’s Fan Zhendong clinched the gold medal in men’s singles table tennis at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, defeating Sweden’s Truls Moregard with a score of 4-1 in the final held on Sunday.
Fan, the second seed in the tournament, showcased his dominance by overcoming the 22-year-old Olympic debutant Moregard with set scores of 7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8, and 11-8 at the South Paris Arena 4.
This victory marks Fan’s second appearance in the Olympic men’s singles final. In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, he was narrowly defeated by fellow Chinese player Ma Long.
Earlier in the day, French player Felix Lebrun secured the bronze medal by sweeping Brazil’s Hugo Calderano 4-0.
