Vietnamese expatriate Sky Le has achieved a Guinness World Record after an extraordinary journey spanning 40,000 kilometers, during which he persuaded 20,000 individuals to sign his car. Sky Le, a hair stylist by profession, undertook this ambitious endeavor as part of his “Sky’s World Tour,” a project aimed at inspiring others and raising funds for a pediatric cancer support fund.
In Galveston, Texas, USA, Sky Le received official recognition from Guinness World Records for having accumulated the highest number of signatures on a car. Over a period of 330 days, he traversed continents, interacting with 70,000 people and successfully gathering 7,000 signatures.
The Guinness World Records criteria for signature collection were stringent, requiring interactions to take place in public spaces with video documentation and personal information of the signatories.
Sky Le acknowledged that the most challenging aspect of his journey was convincing strangers to provide their personal details. He passionately explained his project to each individual, emphasizing themes of perseverance and surpassing personal limits, which he believes resonated deeply and garnered support from people worldwide.
The journey provided Sky Le with numerous memorable encounters, forging connections with a diverse array of individuals. Among the 7,000 signatures were those of notable figures such as UFC fighter Nick Diaz, ice cream entrepreneur Ted Drewes, Muay Thai athlete Melech Tezedek, artist Dean Foster, and record holder Michael Jenkins.
Reflecting on a poignant moment during his signature-gathering efforts, Sky Le recounted how two joggers, initially unaware of his project, were intrigued by the signatures adorning his car. Upon learning about Sky’s mission, they enthusiastically contributed their signatures, prompting one to point out Nick Diaz’s autograph and remark on its potential value.
Sky Le, humbled by the encounter, expressed gratitude, stating, “I may not have recognized you as a celebrity, but I am honored to have your signature on my car – a beacon of hope.”
Later confirming the identity of the signer as Nick Diaz, a veteran UFC fighter, Sky Le emphasized the profound impact of chance encounters with extraordinary individuals, enriching the narrative of his “car of hope.”
Continuing his Sky’s World Tour, which includes offering complimentary haircuts and fundraising, Sky Le aims to raise $20,000 for pediatric cancer support. To date, he has collected $3,770 from donations received during his travels.
“For me, charity work imbues life with purpose and meaning. Yet, I recognize the limitations of individual efforts, which is why I seek to inspire others to contribute to reputable humanitarian causes,” Sky Le affirmed.
Born Le Tran Tuan in 1987 in Quy Nhon, Vietnam, Sky Le moved to the United States at the age of 16. He honed his hairstyling skills under the tutelage of Donnal Chung, a renowned Hong Kong stylist from the early 1990s, and subsequently established a successful hair studio in Missouri, USA. Despite its profitability, he closed the studio after two years to pursue his dream of global travel and charitable endeavors.
