A recent study has ranked Pennsylvania’s state dog, the Great Dane, as one of the most beautiful dogs in the U.S. According to Showsight Magazine’s July report, “Beautiful Dogs: The Golden Ratio Reveals the Most Beautiful Dog Breeds,” the Great Dane earned bronze for third place in overall beauty among state dogs.
The report utilized facial analysis of 25 popular dog breeds and the 13 official state dogs, applying the “golden ratio” concept to assess aesthetic appeal. This mathematical ratio, derived from the Fibonacci sequence, is used globally to evaluate beauty.
The Pennsylvania General Assembly selected the Great Dane for its historical and symbolic significance, reflecting both the state’s hunting heritage and its founder William Penn’s English roots. The Great Dane is praised for its strength and elegance.
The Alaskan Malamute of Alaska was ranked second, while the Catahoula Leopard Dog of Louisiana secured the top spot.
