A 19-year-old from Santa Cruz, California, may have set a new Guinness World Record for “bike surfing” by traveling more than 656 feet in a single stunt.
Brock Johnson, a member of the Santa Cruz Maniacs bike crew, set his sights on breaking the existing record of 262 feet after discovering it through Guinness World Records. “I found out that the record was 80 meters [262 feet],” Johnson told KSBW-TV. “When I practice bike surfing, I often exceed that distance.”
Bike surfing, a daring stunt where the rider stands on the bike with one foot on the handlebars and the other on the seat, requires significant skill and balance. Johnson initially aimed to surpass 100 meters (328 feet) but exceeded expectations by covering over 200 meters (656 feet) during his attempt.
Johnson is now in the process of submitting evidence of his record-breaking feat to Guinness World Records for official recognition.
Members of the Santa Cruz Maniacs, who have witnessed Johnson’s impressive skills, were not surprised by his success. They note that Johnson is renowned for his exceptional bike surfing abilities and has performed the stunt under challenging conditions.
The outcome of Johnson’s record attempt awaits verification from Guinness World Records, but his accomplishment is already generating excitement within the biking community.
