Josef Salek from the Czech Republic has further cemented his status as a Guinness World Records legend by setting a new record for the longest abdominal plank with a 40-pound pack. Salek, also known as Joska, held the plank position for an impressive 85 minutes and 2.16 seconds, adding to his growing list of records.
Salek, a therapist, lecturer, and personal development coach, now holds three Guinness World Records. His achievements include the fastest half-marathon run barefoot on ice and snow and the longest abdominal plank (male). His latest feat demonstrates his commitment to pushing physical and mental boundaries.
For this record attempt, Salek followed a unique training regimen, alternating between daily planking sessions and one-handed dumbbell exercises. The attempt was conducted at the Gamechangers stage of the Colours of Ostrava music festival, an expansive outdoor event.
Salek began the day with a light strength workout to warm up. At the venue, a 40-pound backpack was carefully balanced and positioned on his back, ensuring it rested evenly between his shoulders. The setup included a mattress and a trapeze bar for support, and a diffuser was used to help regulate his breathing.
During the attempt, Salek faced challenges as the backpack occasionally shifted, tilting toward his right shoulder and making the plank more difficult. Despite these difficulties, Salek remained focused and persevered.
Salek acknowledged that the weighted plank was more challenging than his previous records but emphasized the importance of mental resilience in overcoming physical challenges. Official Adjudicator Joanne Brent confirmed the record and presented Salek with his Guinness World Records certificate.
Looking ahead, Salek is already planning his next record attempt. He aims to run a full marathon barefoot on snow and ice and is keeping other potential challenges in mind. Salek’s achievements underscore his belief that determination and physical skill are key to reaching new heights in extreme physical feats.
