PESHAWAR: Pakistani multi-Guinness World Records title holder Irfan Mehsood and his son Sufiyan Mehsood have achieved a new milestone, setting the record for the fastest time to climb around a person. According to the Guinness World Records website, the record was set in Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan, on June 19, 2024, with a time of 7.87 seconds.
Irfan Mehsood, a mixed martial arts athlete from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, has recently become the first Pakistani to hold 100 Guinness World Records. This latest achievement adds to his impressive list of records, which includes feats in push-ups, squats, jumping jacks, squat thrusts, step-ups, knee strikes, elbow strikes, side jumps, and high jumps.
Earlier this year, Mehsood, along with his son, surpassed the previous record held by India’s K. Gokulnath and MV Arjun Priyan. The duo’s record-setting climb highlights their remarkable agility and coordination.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the young record-holder, stating, “At such a young age, Sufiyan Mehsood has made a Guinness World Record, making the name of his parents and his country proud. Talented children like Sufiyan Mehsood are a guarantee of Pakistan’s bright future.”
In addition to their recent accomplishment, Irfan Mehsood has broken records previously set by athletes from 16 countries, including the United States, Britain, India, China, and Italy. Notably, he surpassed Italian weightlifter Marcello Ferri’s record by lifting a 40-pound weight with his toe for three minutes and 20 seconds, extending Ferri’s previous record of one minute and 32 seconds.
All Pakistan MMA President Babar Raja commended Mehsood’s achievements, stating, “Irfan Mehsood is the first Pakistani athlete to achieve 100 Guinness World Records. Despite coming from a district with limited recognition, he has gained widespread fame in MMA.”
Raja also mentioned that the All Pakistan MMA Federation is considering awarding Mehsood a senior role to leverage his extensive experience for the benefit of others in the sport.
