Manowar, known for their theatrical metal performances, has achieved the Guinness World Record for the loudest concert on three separate occasions. The record for loudest concert was first established by The Who in 1976 at 126 decibels, a feat that seemed to set the benchmark for pure volume in live music.
Manowar, notorious for their over-the-top metal persona, first claimed the title in 1984, surpassing The Who’s mark. They further cemented their dominance by breaking their own record in 1994 with a volume of 129.5 decibels. The band’s obsession with extreme volume led them to set a new record during their soundcheck at the 2008 Magic Circle Festival, reaching a staggering 139 decibels, which is louder than a jet plane.
Although Manowar achieved the record three times, not all of these were officially recognized by Guinness World Records. After their second record, Guinness stopped tracking the category to prevent potential hearing damage. This move might have been influenced by Manowar’s relentless pursuit of ever-increasing volume levels.
