Saki Tamogami, a 37-year-old from Japan, has gained recognition as the country’s most frugal woman after purchasing three homes by the age of 34 and fulfilling her dream of opening a cat café. Her story was featured on the Japanese television program Happy! Bomby Girl, which highlighted her remarkable saving habits.
Tamogami, who appeared on the show in 2019, spends just 200 yen (US$1.4) daily on food, sticking to simple meals like toast and udon noodles. She refrains from buying new clothes, relying on hand-me-downs and salvaged furniture, and even eats directly from the pot to save on dishes.
At 19, Tamogami set a goal to own three properties by 34. She achieved this by carefully managing her salary from her job at a property agency and investing in real estate. Her first purchase, a house in Saitama, cost 10 million yen (US$69,000) and was followed by two more homes—one for 18 million yen and another for 37 million yen.
Her frugal lifestyle is driven by a desire to rescue stray cats, inspired by a childhood pet. She opened Cafe Yuunagi in her third house, providing shelter and support to strays, and plans to expand her property portfolio using rental income and savings.
Tamogami’s story has sparked significant interest and admiration on social media, with many praising her discipline and long-term commitment. Her achievements have been likened to modern wonders, illustrating the extraordinary results of her frugal lifestyle.
