Park City, Utah, is gearing up to reclaim the title for the longest ski shot world record on October 12. The event, organized by the local Rotary Club “Park City Sunrise” and High West Distilling, will mark the eighth time the community has hosted this record-breaking attempt. The goal is to raise over $60,000 for local charities. The festivities will commence at 2 p.m. on Main Street in Park City, where High West Distilling plans to serve 1,385 shots across approximately 560 skis.
The pursuit of the longest ski shot has been a friendly rivalry between Park City and Breckenridge, Colorado, for over a decade. Breckenridge set the initial world record in 2010 with a 422-foot-long shot ski made up of more than 400 skis. Since then, the record has alternated between the two cities.
The competition was interrupted by COVID-19 restrictions but resumed in 2021 when Breckenridge assembled 1,333 participants to drink from shot glasses mounted on skis. Park City responded in 2022 by serving 1,340 shots on 525 skis, and last year, the city set a new record with 1,363 servings of double rye whiskey. Now, Park City aims to surpass its own record once again.
The event has historically served as a fundraiser for local charities. Last year’s effort generated $40,000, while the 2019 event raised $30,000.
Tickets for the event start at $30 per person, which includes a spot at the ski. VIP and sponsorship packages begin at $250 for three people and feature a special “High West Distilling” branded shot ski.
With an ambitious target of 1,385 shots on 560 skis, the upcoming record attempt promises to be both a highly anticipated and challenging event, continuing the spirited competition between Park City and Breckenridge.
