MANILA, Philippines — Two branches of Lyf, a hotel brand under Ascott Limited, have recently been awarded Guinness World Records for their extraordinary origami displays, marking a milestone as the brand celebrates its first anniversary in the Philippines.
On August 29, the Lyf Cebu City branch was officially recognized for the “Largest Display of Origami Sharks,” featuring an impressive 12,479 origami sharks. This display honors the Pelagic Thresher Shark, a species native to Cebu’s waters and a symbol of Cebu Island.
The following day, the Lyf Malate Manila branch set a new record for the “Largest Display of Origami Stars.” The Manila branch’s star-themed event showcased 100,000 origami stars, celebrating Filipino heritage and history. The display also included traditional wooden Balangay and galleons, which highlight the Philippines’ maritime history.
Joyce Agsaway, Director of Operational Excellence at the Malate Manila branch, expressed her excitement: “Words cannot do justice to what was achieved by the brand and its community over these two days. It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment, a dream that became a miraculous reality through phenomenal efforts.”
In a bid to further engage the community, Lyf is collaborating with unconventional artist Willie Garcia to transform the origami sharks and stars into new artistic installations.
