BEIJING, September — Tesla Inc. (TSLA) recorded its highest monthly sales in China this year, marking a notable achievement for the U.S. electric vehicle manufacturer. In August, Tesla sold over 63,000 vehicles in the world’s largest automotive market, representing a significant 37% increase from the previous month, July. Despite this substantial gain, August’s sales figures are slightly below the 64,694 units sold in the same month last year.
The increase in sales was driven by strong performance in smaller cities, where demand for electric vehicles continues to grow. However, despite this positive trend, Tesla’s sales performance in China still falls short when compared to major local competitors. The gap between Tesla’s sales figures and those of leading Chinese EV manufacturers remains significant, highlighting the intense competition in the burgeoning electric vehicle market.
