The Voxan electric motorbike, a product of collaboration between Ohio University and the Monegasque Venturi Group, has set four new world speed records. Achieved between August 25 and 29, 2024, on the Bonneville Salt Flats, these records are pending validation by the Fédération Internationale Motocycliste (FIM).
Record-Breaking Speeds:
In the electric motorbike category for vehicles weighing less than 150 kilograms, the Voxan motorbike achieved the following records:
Without Fairing:
168.712 mph (271.515 kph) for a 1 km flying start
168.593 mph (271.323 kph) for a 1 mile flying start
With Streamlined Fairing:
180.065 mph (289.787 kph) for a 1 km flying start
180.035 mph (289.738 kph) for a 1 mile flying start
Gildo Pastor, President of the Venturi Group, celebrated the achievements, stating, “Four new world speed records, what a fabulous gift to mark the 15th anniversary of our partnership! Ohio State University and ourselves already held five records, and now we have nine. Stay tuned for number 10!”

The Ohio State RW-5 Voxan, designed by Ohio State University’s engineering faculty and the Buckeye Current team, features advanced technology that contributed to its record-setting performance. The Venturi Group’s design office, which owns the Voxan brand, provided critical expertise in areas such as design, suspension, battery technology, transmission, and stability optimization.
This impressive milestone highlights the ongoing success of the partnership between Ohio University and Venturi, reinforcing their position as leaders in electric motorbike innovation and speed.
