The 70th anniversary edition of the Guinness World Records, out today, features an extraordinary achievement from Sheffield. Ruth Amos and Shawn Brown, known for their YouTube channel Kids Invent Stuff, have set a new world record with a colossal 6ft 7in electric toothbrush.
The toothbrush, conceived as part of their channel where they bring children’s inventive ideas to life, was designed by 11-year-old George. Intended for garden use with attachments for tasks like grass trimming and tree cutting, the toothbrush features a head made from a grinder and was constructed using plasma cutting tools by Ruth, with Shawn handling the wiring.
Amos and Brown, who have worked together since winning the Young Engineer for Britain Award, have made a name for themselves with their imaginative creations. Their channel has featured various inventions, from popcorn-firing doorbells to a 7ft dinosaur that mops the floor.
In an interview with the Yorkshire Post, Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday shared insights about the record selection process. With about 100 applications daily and only 10 percent being accepted, the book highlights unique and outstanding achievements.
“Celebrating such extraordinary accomplishments is what we do,” Glenday said. “It’s about recognizing and remembering the hard work and creativity of individuals from around the world.”
The 2025 edition of the Guinness World Records includes 2,115 records chosen from 42,000 submissions, featuring diverse talents from around the globe. Among the other entries are a 15-year-old Irish magician who performed the most tricks in under a minute and a U.S. teenager with the largest hands and feet.
Glenday also mentioned his favorite records, including Diana Armstrong from Minnesota, who holds the record for the longest fingernails at 4ft, and Tommy Mattinson, with the most wins at the Gurning World Championships.
Ruth Amos expressed her excitement about the recognition, emphasizing the channel’s mission to inspire future engineers and innovators. “To be featured in the Guinness World Records is an iconic milestone,” she said.
The new edition marks a celebration of extraordinary human achievements, offering a glimpse into the fun and imaginative side of record-breaking.
