Castlebar, Mayo, is set to make its mark in the Guinness World Records 2025 edition, which celebrates the 70th anniversary of the iconic record book. Released globally tomorrow, September 12, the latest edition will include a remarkable record achieved in 2019 in Market Square, Castlebar.
The record in question is the longest marathon group hug, lasting an impressive 30 hours and 1 minute. This heartwarming achievement was completed by Stephen Rattigan, Brian Cawley, Nicky Kearney, and Robert Tuomey from Ireland, who initially set the record in 2017 and reclaimed it in 2019.
The group’s effort not only set a new standard but also served a charitable cause, raising over €6,700 for charity through their extended embrace. Stephen Rattigan expressed the team’s excitement, saying, “We are all absolutely delighted to get mentioned in this year’s Guinness Book of World Records because there are thousands of records online and only a select few ever make it to print in the book.”
The Guinness World Records 2025 edition features 2,115 records and showcases achievements from around the globe. The Castlebar group’s inclusion is a testament to their dedication and the power of community spirit.
