Heritage Auctions set a new record today with the sale of a CGC 9.6 copy of Fantastic Four #1, which fetched $2.04 million, including the buyer’s premium. This sale marks the highest price ever achieved for this comic book, surpassing the previous record of $1.5 million set in 2022 for a CGC 9.2 copy.
The copy auctioned today is distinguished by its white pages and represents the highest-grade known of this iconic issue. The $2.04 million price reflects a 36% increase over the prior record, underscoring the growing demand for high-grade comic books.
In contrast, the auction for a high-grade copy of Amazing Fantasy #15, featuring Spider-Man’s first appearance, saw a significant decline. The CGC 9.0 copy with Off-White to White pages and Curator Pedigree sold for $540,000, including the buyer’s premium. This figure is notably lower than the $3.5 million paid for a CGC 9.6 copy during the peak of the COVID-19 collectible boom in 2021, which remains the highest price ever achieved for a comic book at auction.
