Just over a year after being officially recognized, Listowel’s DollyDay has made its mark in the 2024 Guinness World Records book as the largest gathering of people dressed as Dolly Parton. The event, which took place in June 2023, attracted 1,137 participants, raising over €74,000 for the Kerry Hospice Foundation and Comfort for Chemo Kerry.
This week, the organizers celebrated the achievement on social media, expressing gratitude to everyone involved. Their post declared, “Hold onto your wigs, folks—DollyDay is officially IN THE GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS BOOK! Our unforgettable gathering is now a permanent part of history!”
Cora O’Brien, Chairperson of the organizing committee, reflected on the success, noting, “We’re absolutely delighted to have the official world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Dolly Parton. This adds to our town’s legacy, alongside the Nun Day record from 2012.” The event exemplifies the power of community spirit in supporting worthy causes.
